Enumeration

Enumeration is the process of creating a list of eligible voters for each electoral division. A door-to-door enumeration happens at the beginning of an election. Enumerators go door-to-door collecting the names of eligible voters in each household. Official enumerators wear uniforms and carry photo ID from Elections Manitoba. Elections Manitoba enumerators work only during daylight hours.

The purpose of the Voters List is:

to keep track of who has voted
to make the voting experience faster
to set spending limits for candidates
to assist candidates and parties with campaigning

Voters lists are not posted in public, but they are shared with candidates. For personal security, you may ask your returning officer to omit or obscure your name and contact information on the voters list and other public election records. Your information would be replaced with a personal security number.

revision

A revision period is held following enumeration to add, change or remove names from the voters list. If you were missed by the enumerator, or would like to make a change, you can either go to a revising office or arrange to have a revising agent (like an enumerator) visit you at home.

Revision is held at returning offices and some other locations immediately following enumeration. Bring a driver's license or two other pieces of identification to have your name added to the voters list. Revising office locations are published in newspaper advertisements during an election.

If you cannot attend revision, a relative may go to the revising office to add or correct your information. You may also ask for a revising agent to come to your home or apply by mail. Contact your returning officer for more information.

Qualified voters who were missed during enumeration and revision can still vote at advance voting or on election day. They must take an oath of eligibility and produce a driver's license or two other pieces of identification at the voting station.
